One can consider a pencil as the basic tool of an architect to represent their ideas onto a piece of paper. What if all we think of it not as a tool but rather as a construction element to build with? The ’25,000 Pencils’ project explores ‘design through making’ at a 1:1 scale with graphite pencils and simple joinery – industrial high resistance toric joints – . One hundred architecture students were invited at the CCCB, Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, to assemble one hundred pencils each in the form of a collective construction, which challenged the structural capabilities of pencils and its ability to provide a new spatial condition.
