SALA FERUSIC Architects is an award-winning architectural office established in Barcelona by Carles Sala and Relja Ferusic, which gathers multidisciplinary and transversal knowledge to deliver innovative architecture and design.
Since its foundation in 2008, the office has developed a wide body of work acknowledged for its quality, from urban planning and architecture to ephemeral and product design, embracing new design and fabrication technologies to responsibly bind architecture and making within its immediate ecosystem.
The office has been appointed as an Emergent Young Office by ‘Arquia / Próxima’ Foundation, while its work has been awarded by renown institutions such as FAD, COAC or CSCAE ‘Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo’, published by ‘On Diseño’, ‘Arquitectura Viva’ or ‘Quaderns d’Arquitectura i Urbanisme’ and shown at CCCB, MUHBA or ‘Círculo de Bellas Artes’ among others.
SALA FERUSIC Architects has a remarkable wine design portfolio, including industry, tourism, retail or product design. Since 2013, its expertise and knowledge in wine architecture has contributed to a research developed by its partners, along with the AA School of Architecture in London and IAAC in Barcelona.
Its partners have been involved in teaching at ETH in Zurich, AA School of Architecture in London, WSA in Cardiff, ETSAB in Barcelona, IAAC in Barcelona or ESARQ in Barcelona, while they have lectured and reviewed projects at The Bartlett UCL London, Central Saint Martins UAL London, CCAE University College Cork, Università degli Studi dell’Aquila or ETSAM Madrid among others.

Carles Sala (Barcelona, 1980)
Founding Partner and Director, Architect MArch
Carles Sala is a registered architect at COAC and member of the AA Architectural Association in London. He graduated with Honours from the ETSAB (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in Barcelona and later earned an MArch from the AA School of Architecture’s Design Research Laboratory in London, after being awarded by ‘La Caixa’ Foundation with a national grant for postgraduate studies.
Since 2008 he runs together with Relja Ferusic his own architectural office SALA FERUSIC Architects in Barcelona.
He directs BODEGA Research Group, under the umbrella of the AA School of Architecture in London and IAAC in Barcelona, which rephrases the process of winemaking by means of architectural design. His research career has been awarded by COAC with the Architectural Innovation Award and supported by ‘Banc Sabadell’ Foundation with a research grant.
In regards with teaching, he has worked at WSA (Cardiff University) in Cardiff as Architectural Design Tutor and he is today an Associate Lecturer in Architectural Design at the ETSAB in Barcelona as well as he leads a seminar at the Master in Advanced Architecture at IAAC in Barcelona.
Relja Ferusic (Sarajevo, 1980)
Founding Partner and Director, Architect MSc
Relja Ferusic is a registered architect at COAC, AABiH and REG Switzerland. He graduated with Honours from the ETSAB (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in Barcelona, where he later obtained an MSc on urban space and digital social networks.
In 2008 he founded along with Carles Sala SALA FERUSIC Architects in Barcelona, where he currently develops his professional career.
In terms of research, he is currently directing BODEGA Research Group, which pursues the design and fabrication of solutions for winemaking in future scenarios, under the scope of the AA School of Architecture in London and IAAC in Barcelona. His investigation work has been acknowledged by COAC with the Architectural Innovation Award and awarded with a research grant by ‘Banc Sabadell’ Foundation.
He has taught Architectural Design at D-Arch (ETH) in Zurich and ESARQ (UIC) in Barcelona, while he currently holds a position of Associate Lecturer in Architectural Design at the ETSAB in Barcelona and runs a seminar at the Master in Advanced Architecture at IAAC in Barcelona.
